Victorious Faith

Rephrasing the words of his master, in 1 John 5:4, the apostle John identifies and singles out for us the one key component to victory over this world – our faith.  1 John 5:4

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Our victory is in our faith. Without faith, it is not only impossible to please God, but also to overcome the world.

And it is not just a general faith in Christ but a living and dynamic faith in His words for that is the kind of faith that is going to deliver victory to us. When faced with a great army of Moabites, Jehoshapat, king of Judah reminded and encouraged God’s  people to keep faith – but not only in God but God’s words too as delivered to them at that time by the prophets.

2 Chronicles 20:20
And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. And when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be established; believe his prophets, and you will succeed.”

This devout king understood that success and victory depended on keeping faith in God and His words. Friends, victory can only be experienced when we keep faith in God and His word.

It is absolutely imperative that you not neglect your faith in these extraordinary times we are living in but prioritise and feed it. This is not the time to sideline or sidestep faith but feed and nurture it like never before.

Many of us have our eyes and ears glued to media outlets and newsfeeds seeking to catch up with, what seems to be, the relentless advance of the corona virus. Necessary as this information may be to our day to day lives, it must not be at the expense of feeding and nurturing our faith. We must prioritise and maintain a steady and immovable focus on our faith and not on figures. We must get a higher perspective to what we are going through and that can only come from connecting with God regularly through His word and His Spirit.

Your faith in Christ and His words, His promises, is vitally important for your victory over this world and everything associated with it – sin, sickness, death and the fear and paranoia surrounding them.

Especially at this time. Keep faith.
