A toast to Grace

Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also obtained access through Him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.      Romans 5:1-2

Just like the cells and organs of our body are immersed in the perfectly balanced and optimally calibrated internal environment of our physical bodies, in Christ, we too are immersed in this grace of God in which we now stand. Grace represents the perfectly balanced, finely tuned and optimally calibrated environment we find ourselves in, in Christ just us the interior environment of our physical bodies is optimised and presents the perfect condition for the uninhibited and smooth functioning of its cells.

The grace of God is what enables and facilitates our renunciation of worldly passions and ungodliness while making righteous, self-controlled and godly living in this present age a daily reality for believers.  Grace is what we are meant to live on – it is the air that we breathe and the ground that we stand on, it is what sustains the life of God in us. Grace is what supports us within and without – we are immersed in and stand on nothing but His grace. We feed on grace, we stand on grace and we breathe grace. It is what keeps us on the right track and facilitates our progress therein towards our heavenly calling. Grace is what protects us from the pitfalls on this rocky journey – known and unknown, within (our own fallen nature, the resident evil within) and without.

Grace is what enables us to reach and fulfil our God given potential and calling. As the great apostle Paul noted, we only become what we were created and intended to be by this grace – 1 Corinthians 15:10   But by God’s grace I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not ineffective. However, I worked more than any of them, yet not I, but God’s grace that was with me.

It is this mind blowing grace that we have free and limitless access to in Christ Jesus our Saviour. However, this grace requires us to continually access and actively cooperate with it if it is to be effective in our lives. We need to take care that this grace is not wasted on us. Without the input and active presence of God’s grace in our lives, we can neither live as God intended for us to nor can we accomplish His purpose and calling for our lives. For a child of God, this grace is the most precious commodity he/she ought to value and treasure highly, placing greater emphasis on and investing more time in accessing it in their lives.

We are declared righteous by faith, at peace with God Himself, issued with a lifetime pass to grace and living with joyous anticipation of the glory of God that is yet to be revealed – what a glorious position me and you are in!

Praise God for His amazing grace!
