An unsung hero of faith

There is one woman famed in the gospels for her extraordinary faith.

Her story appears in 3 out of 4 gospels.

She suffered from a condition we would probably term menorrhagia today (discharge of blood).

It caused her untold grief and suffering for 12 years eventually leading to her financial demise without getting any better. Mark 5:25 – 26 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse.

One day she was totally and instantly healed by Jesus without Him even being initially aware of it.

Mark 5:29
And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.

Such was the extent of her faith all she did was simply reach out to touch the hem of His garment on a crowded street where Jesus was being harassed by people from all sides.

This socially outcast woman is the unsung hero of faith. There was so much faith in her that she did not even need an introduction to Jesus or make her request known to Him. Mark 5:28 For she said, β€œIf I touch even his garments, I will be made well.”

Her faith was so great that she received her healing without even requesting for it.

The answer is in Mark 5:27, β€œShe had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment.”

She had heard about Jesus.

What made this woman approach Jesus in the first place were the reports she had heard about Him. Her faith was conceived and matured by what she heard about Jesus. Romans 10:17 says, β€œSo faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”

There’s no magic or secret formula to faith – the more you hear about Christ through His word, the greater and stronger your faith in Him becomes.

Conversely, the less you feed on His Word, the weaker and frailer your faith will turn out to be.

The reports this woman heard caused her faith to rise to a level where she understood that all she needed was a single contact with Him.

Her faith was strong enough to even bypass a request.

Go immerse yourself in the words of Christ and see if your faith will not rise too.
